How to Make a GoDaddy WordPress Website: A Step-by-Step Guide

Getting Started

Hey what’s going on guys? Today I’m going to be showing you how to make a GoDaddy WordPress website. This is going to be a step-by-step tutorial guide with no skipped steps. If you guys have never made a website before, that’s totally okay. You’re not going to need any design skills because there’s no web coding or anything complicated like that involved. I’ll keep everything as simple as it can be, so as long as you have access to the Internet, you can do this.

Pricing and Process

Before we get started, I just want to go over a couple of things like some of the cost involved and then how long the process is going to take. After that, we can start building the actual website.

Cost

The only fee involved in this process is the website hosting, which is only $1 a month. Everything else is free. If you guys don’t know what website hosting is, it’s basically where all the content on your website is going to be stored. It’s like the land where you’re going to build your house. You’re going to need a domain name, which is just the name of your website, like amazon.com or youtube.com. Some website hosting providers charge you a fee for a domain, but GoDaddy includes one for free.

Step 1: Get Your Website Hosting

What you’re going to want to do first is click the link below in the description of this video and that’s going to automatically apply the discount code for you. Then, click on the "Get Started" button and then pick your domain name. If you guys are trying to figure out a domain name and you just can’t think of one, here are a couple of tips to help you.

Step 2: Create Your GoDaddy Account

Once you find a domain name that’s available, you’ll see that it says "Your domain name is available". All you have to do is click on "Select and continue". Then, create a GoDaddy account or log in with your Amazon, Facebook, or Google account. I’m just going to create my account through my Gmail.

Step 3: Set Up WordPress

After that, it’s going to send us back to the payment page. I’m going to be selecting PayPal to pay. This is going to be my total, $12.18 for the entire year. I’m just going to click on "Agree and continue" and then it’ll process my order.

Step 4: Set Up Your Website

Now, we can just set up WordPress. You’re going to do is go down to the left side and click on the "Manual WordPress setup" button. Then, and after that, we’re going to land on this page and this is where we’re going to create our WordPress username and password.

Step 5: Verify Your Email Address

Now, we need to verify our email address. All you need to do is go to the email account that you registered your GoDaddy account with and they should have sent you a verification email. Then, click on the "Verify email" button.

Step 6: Install Your Theme

Now, what we’re going to do is install our theme. We’re just going to go up here to the top and click on "Dashboard" dashboard Then, we’re going to come over to "Appearance" and click on "Themes". This is where you’re going to go whenever you want to change the theme of your website or the look of your website.

Step 7: Create Your First Post

Now, we’re going to create our first post. All you got to do is go to the YouTube video that you want and then copy the link. Then, go back and click on this plus button, scroll down, actually type in "YouTube" there it is, you just click on that and just simply paste the link in here and then click on "Embed and it’s as simple as that.

Step 8: Add Categories

Now, we’re going to add categories. Whatever your website is about, you’re going to want to try to break it down into some categories. Like I have since this is like a yoga type website, I have the categories "Improved Posture", "Flexibility", "Health", and "Poses". Then, whatever the post is that I’m writing about, I’m just going to put it into the category that makes sense.

Step 9: Add a Featured Image

Now, we’re going to add a featured image. What that is basically this image that you see right here and also all these images right here for the posts, these are your featured images. So, these are going to be the images that show up on your website right here. To do that, all you’re going to need to do is I’m just going to remove this real quick. You’re just going to click on "Set featured image", then you’re going to go over here to "Upload files" and then click on "Select files". Then, once you find the image you want, just like uploading a photo to your post, you just select it. Then, once it’s finished uploading, right there, you just go down here and click on "Set featured image" and there’s your featured image right there.

Step 10: Customize Your Website

Now, what we’re going to do is customize your website. You can go and change the colors and some of the other things like that. For example, like if you want to switch this and add a site logo instead, you can click on that and then you can find an image. If you look right here, it says "Suggested image dimensions 150 by 150 pixels". And like I was saying for this free stock images site, pixels.com, you can go here and you can click on "Custom size" and you could put in 150 by 150 and it’ll give you an image that’s that size exactly.

Conclusion

That’s basically everything you’re going to need to know as far as making a post goes. Now, I’m going to show you how to set up the menu section. What you guys should do now is focus on trying to get up maybe five or ten different posts for your website and that’ll just help fill everything out for you.
