Title: How to Add Custom Domain Name in Blogger

Here’s a step-by-step tutorial on how to add a custom domain name in Blogger.

Step 1: Pre-requisites
Before proceeding, make sure you have purchased a custom domain name from a registrar (such as GoDaddy or Namecheap). You also need to have a functioning blogger blog.

Step 2: CNAME Record
Login to your domain registrar’s account and go to the DNS management section. Add a CNAME record with the following details:

Host: www
Target: ghsserblogpage.googlecode.com
TTL: 600

This record is crucial for linking your custom domain name to your Blogger blog.

Step 3: Edit Blogger Settings
Go to your Blogger dashboard and click on Settings (gear icon) > Basic. Scroll down to the "Custom domain" section and click on the "Use a custom domain" radio button. Enter your custom domain name (e.g., "hindihot topic.in").

Step 4: Verification Process
Blogger will then redirect you to a verification page. On this page, you’ll see a list of TXT records. Please follow the instructions to add these TXT records to your domain registrar’s DNS settings. For GoDaddy, these are usually added as follow:

  • Host: ghsserblogpage.googlecode.com
  • Record type: TXT
  • Data: yourcustomdomain.blogspot.com. Note: Be sure to add a trailing period (.).

Step 5: Verify TXT Records
Once you’ve added the TXT records to your domain registrar’s DNS settings, verify them by clicking on the "Verify" button on the Blogger verification page. You might need to wait a few hours or even a day for these records to propagate globally.

Step 6: Set-up Meta Tags
Login to your blogger dashboard and go to Settings (gear icon) > Search Preferences > Metatags. In this section, ensure that the following meta tags are present and set to their correct values:

  • meta name="description"
  • meta name="keywords"

You may also need to add a tag to prevent Blogger’s meta robots tag from causing conflicts.

Step 7: Custom Domain Activation
Once the verification and meta tags are in order, click on the "Custom Domain Activation" button. You will now have your custom domain name active for your blogger blog.

Additional Tip
To prevent sub-domain confusion, it’s highly recommended to redirect your subdomain (e.g., blog.yourcustomdomain.com) to your custom domain name using a URL rewriter or by modifying the htaccess file.

That’s it! You should now have a fully functioning custom domain name for your Blogger blog. In this tutorial, we have covered:

  • CNAME record setup
  • Custom domain verification
  • TXT records validation
  • Meta tags configuration
  • Custom domain activation

Please note that each domain registrar may have slightly different instructions. If you encounter any issues, I would be happy to help troubleshoot.

Stay tuned for the next tutorial!
