The first provider comes with an affordable unlimited web hosting plan and is also recommended by WordPress. It’s DreamHost web hosting. Naturally, the most essential part of an unlimited provider is its plans and value.
So let’s start here. DreamHost offers simple shared hosting and WordPress plans, but these options have the same resources and pricing. I’ll focus on shared hosting for now. The Starter Plan is a good option. However, it is nowhere near unlimited. To get that, we need to get the aptly named Unlimited Plan.
This removes any limitations that you might have. This includes daily backups and adds a free domain name. All of this for under $4 a month or free dollars if you go with yearly billing. The next point I want to make in my DreamHost review, it’s very easy hosting to manage.
The dashboard here is straightforward. There are no cPanels or other old-school controls that might look too daunting. DreamHost uses its own custom management panel. The controls are not big enough friendly. There are a lot of different looking panels and weird design choices. A2 uses cPanel for more complex tasks. And I think there are better ways for website management, especially comparing DreamHost versus A2 Hosting. Okay, I’m being a bit too pedantic about it,
But A2 controls work, they just don’t look that good. One vital thing I must note in my A2 hosting review 2023 is different A2 Hosting plans have different technical resources. For example, the Drive Plan comes with 1 gigabyte of RAM and 2 cores.
In contrast, the Turbo MAX Plan ups this to 4 gigabytes of RAM and 4 cores. If you need that extra kick, A2 Hosting has you covered. Okay, I’ve tested the Drive Plan with the same setup as I did with DreamHost, and A2 Hosting is a bit faster.
The default WordPress website took around 1.1 seconds to load fully, while my ecommerce store loaded in around 1.3 seconds. And all of this for under $5.50 a month. Looking at HostGator controls, they feel like a mix between the previous two providers. The main dashboard is clean and easy to follow. You get only the most needed information displayed. Well, for the most part, that is.
The bulk of your daily task will be done in this dashboard. But for some settings, you’ll have to use cPanel. HostGator cPanel is one of the better ones I’ve seen, but I still would like to see a full HostGator custom control panel in the future.
The next part of this HostGator review is performance. Throughout the years, I’ve heard some great and not so great things about this provider’s performance. After working with it, all I can say is HostGator is fast. And surprise, surprise, it showed the best web hosting performance results in this video.
Technically, all three providers had great loading speeds, managing to be even faster than Google’s recommended. But HostGator loaded an empty WordPress within 1 second and my ecommerce site in around 1.2 seconds. So comparing the middle-tier A2 Hosting versus HostGator top plans, they both offer similar performance.
