Hostinger Review. Cheap, but… What's the catch?

Tutorial Hosting
In today’s video we are looking at hosting as web hosting so I’m going to set up this hosting a premium web hosting package I’m going to put WordPress on here I’ll do some performance benchmarks on the WordPress site so you can see um hostinger how it Compares hosting a

Versus siteground hostinger versus name hero hostinger versus cloudways those comparisons will be in my performance benchmarks also I’ll do a complete setup tutorial so if you’re interested in setting up WordPress on hosting you can see exactly what the user experience is going to be like so if all this sounds

Interesting then keep watching so I’m going to start with a performance comparison benchmarks because I’m sure that’s what you’re most interested in so the shop page I’ve put a woocommerce shop on here I’ve put a test page with just a basic header and some text on

Here to test a lightweight page I’ve put some performance benchmarks on here I’m going to use the WordPress hosting Benchmark tool and WP performance tester and run these on hostinger and we’ll also run some GT metrics page speed scores on those couple pages that I mentioned earlier and let’s go have a

Look at the results okay starting with our WordPress hosting Benchmark tool plugin we can see siteground and hosting are having very similar results 8.1 versus 8 sitegrounds file system is a little faster than hosting it here but hosting is database performance was a little better than siteground but in the end

Pretty similar Benchmark score both of these outperforming name hero pretty comfortably but pretty solid especially considering the hosting is starting quite cheaper than siteground in this comparison so um impressive so far from hostinger and w WP performance tester again pretty similar results this time hosting an outperform siteground by a little bit

There so execution time was a tenth of a second quicker than siteground and the queries per second again were a little bit faster on hosting and so hostinger took this one out despite being a bit cheaper than siteground so that is quite impressive and let’s look at our GT

Metrics web core vitals here for the largest contentful paint time so the loading time here on hosting was pretty good A little bit quicker than siteground a little bit quicker than cloudways digital ocean I should clarify here the blue bar is how long it takes to load the woocommerce shop page that’s

With a customer login and loading that shop page and the orange bar is to lower that lightweight static page that just text based page so in all cases the lightweight page loads in about half a second doesn’t matter which host you are using basically but when you have

Woocommerce on here and the customer has to log in this actually increases the load time and it’s a heavier page obviously so hosting or loading in 1.2 seconds on that shop page we’ve got cloudways 1.4 siteground 1.5 name here at 3.5 the fastest we’ve actually got cloudways vulture for this test I have

Results for that 0.8 seconds so that is still the fastest Budget Host that I’ve tested on the channel but hosting a very solid performance particularly considering that introductory price of three dollars a month pretty impressive I should also clarify I’m using GT metrics to test the core verb vitals

Here this is because GT metrics allows me to use an unthrottled connection which is really important when you’re comparing servers side by side you don’t want the server to be bottlenecked by the browser connection if you use Google you are limited to their desktop connection or their mobile connection

And that is going to be slower than using an unthoughted connection you want to really pull the maximum server performance out of these servers when you’re comparing them side by side to make sure you’re getting a good comparison between them so on throttle connection um with all these benchmarks so far you

Might be thinking wow how can they offer such good server performance at this low price point there’s a couple of reasons I think I’m going to go through them now the couple of limitations that help keep this price point down the first and most significant issue is there appears to be

A download speed limit on this plan so it appears to be about 10 megabits per second that’s about 1.27 megabytes per second so for example a 200 megabyte test file took 2 minutes and 41 seconds to download so if you’re thinking of Hosting large files for example 4K video

Or photography sites with like 8 megapixel 10 megapixel photos 8K photos those kind of large files you’ll notice that it’s going to be slower on here because they have this download speed limit but regular web pages load just fine as we saw that woocommerce page 1.2

Second load time I think that page was about five or six hundred K so for regular web pages it’s going to load just fine but just be warned if you’re hosting large files um it will take quite a long time this is not something I noticed on siteground cloudways or

Name hero all of these 200 megabyte test files if you’re on a fast connection you can get that in just a few seconds but 2 minutes and 40 seconds on hosting uh I tested this from a couple different data centers to make sure it wasn’t on my end

But definitely there appears to be some kind of download speed limit and that is how they keep their costs down that’s how they keep that price very cheap on that hosting plan but still pretty solid for web pages like we saw on our benchmarks the other

Thing I noticed was with email you do get 100 websites and correspondingly a hundred domain-based email boxes as well but one annoying thing was they do charge extra for your dkim security here so you definitely really need to make that upgrade and if you click upgrade

It’s going to cost you at least an extra uh 30 or 40 cents I think so if you want the 30 gigabyte email storage it’s 40 cents a month per account and 10 gigabytes is 30 cents per email account there so that is going to drive your

Cost up if you’re planning on hosting a lot of email addresses on here but um you absolutely do need this unfortunately if you really want a maximum deliverability if you want to avoid Landing in spam or promotions um but honestly I don’t like using web hosting as my email service I like using

Microsoft Outlook Google workspace or iCloud plus they those that have the most reliability in my experience if you want something for free Zoho is pretty good and also there is my send in blue tutorial as well which is pretty good for free as well if you want to avoid

These extra costs but again that’s a little catch that’s going to drive up the cost if you want to host multiple email addresses on here so I think that covers the main performance testing let’s go through the actual setup experience here so if you use the link

In the description you can actually sign up for hosting it you could get a great discount with that link in the description I think the best value plan is this one that I went for the premium web hosting package here 100 websites starting at 2.99 you can obviously go a

Bit cheaper with a single website and you can actually add a few extra features I don’t think this features add a whole lot I’d probably go for this one here and once you add this to your cart you can then go through the checkout process so select the payment method PayPal is

Definitely my favorite out of these but choose whatever your preference is but the most important thing have a coupon code shout out to hosting and for giving me my own idea spot coupon code if you use that code you’ll get an additional discount on top of the discount you got

From the link in the description so combining the link with this code you’ll get a very big initial discount so check that out if you’re interested let’s head over to the dashboard and let’s set up WordPress all right we’re logged into our panel and we can see our premium web hosting

Package here is ready to set up and we can click Start and they have some setup Wizards here or we can just Skip and say I don’t want a personalized experience I think that’s probably easier here and we are going to be creating a new website there we’re going to be using WordPress

So select that one and now we just fill this out so just fill this out with your email put a nice strong password in here and continue they’ve got some suggested plugins here but none of these are necessary we can Skip and manage that later and we can choose a theme here or

Template but we can also just do that later I’d recommend skipping that as well and we are going to name our website so we can use an existing domain which I’m going to do today but you can also buy one through hosting out or you

Can get a free domain name if that was included in your package but I’m going to use an existing one here and in my case I’m using one called idea test site but your domain will go in there I actually bought this one over on namecheap I’d recommend buying domains

Separately from namecheap or similar services but I quite like namecheap let’s go ahead and continue and now to get our domain name working with hostinger we can actually change our name servers to move them over to hosting as name service here so it says our existing name servers and the

Required one so this is the required ones we have to change our nameship name servers I’ll show you how to do that here so I am in namecheap in my domain list and we’ve got name servers here this is similar on other services but on namesheet we’re going to use a custom

DNS and put these name servers in here so all you have to do is find where your name servers are in GoDaddy or Bluehost or wherever you’ve brought your domain from you can put them in ns1 and ns2dnsparking.com are the ones we need to change them to so go ahead and do

That if you’d like a complete tutorial on purchasing a domain from namecheap I’ll put that up in the corner and I’ll put a link in the description as well if you want to check that out but it’s very straightforward that is our DNS servers set up for our hostinger and we can go

Ahead and click continue now and this is where we get to choose our server location so by default it’s set to North America I think that’s pretty good in most situations here but you can actually change it if you’ve got more of your viewers in say Europe and there’s a

Few European service here I could change to if I wished but I’m going to leave minus North America I think most of my viewers tend to be North American so I’m going to leave that as default but change yours as you wish and then we go

Ahead and click finish we can see we’ve got a little initialization progress bar here we just have to wait till that’s done it does mention that SSL will install automatically now we did only just change our name servers a second ago so we might not get the SSL to work

Straight away we might actually have to wait and come back and get that SSL set up so I’ll see what happens but I’m interested to see if this SSL actually works automatically because I don’t think I’ve given it enough time to actually transfer the DNS DNS over but

Says we’re almost there to view your website make any changes you’ll need to connect your domain to our name servers from your current register so I think we should probably wait about half an hour and come back and make sure this is actually transferred over and then we can actually connect our

Domain I’ll show you how to check so we can actually head over to one site called dnschecker.org put your domain name in there so idea test site in my case and hit search we can see that it’s not resolving yet because we only just changed it over on namecheap over on our

Setup process here we’ll close that one there but it says connect your domain and it will actually say the thing we just did let’s activate idea test so let’s start and it will tell us to change our name servers over to these new ones now I already did that

But you can watch a video on actually how it will guide you through how to actually change it if we click continue then it’ll say it’ll take up to 24 hours I don’t think it will take 24 hours usually 30 to 60 minutes it’ll work and

Then we can go ahead and connect the domain but let’s just come back in about half an hour and let’s just recheck this and see if it’s working or not but just be patient here and I’ll come back and see you in a few minutes okay so we’re

Back after about an hour let’s check again and looks like we’re hitting the IP address correctly now so that should be all good and now if we go ahead and click connect our domain it should be okay um I have logged out hang on let’s get back

Because I was away for about an hour it’s automatically logged me out so I’ll log back in and let’s um continue great so after logging back in we can see our dashboard here we’ve got our premium web hosting is ready to manage so let’s click that one let’s have a look

So let’s check their security to make sure that SSL is set up correctly let’s have a look here so there we go we’ve got our domain there it’s got a green tick there so hopefully that’s working and if I open a new tab and head

To idea test site let’s have a look and sure enough we do have our secure padlock so our SSL looks all good and this is a blank WordPress site so we can go ahead and log into our WordPress admin panel so the quickest way to get

There is we can just add slash WP admin to our address here so there WP Dash admin that’ll point us over to our login panel and we just log in with the credentials we use when we set up this WordPress site so in my case I’ve put in

The email address and the password I use when we set up this WordPress site and we can go ahead and log in should prompt me to save that password cool alright so our WordPress looks all good okay let’s set up a quick website I think the easiest way is appearancing

The themes I’m going to use Cadence theme but you could use Astra theme or bloxy theme but a lot of these themes have good starter templates already so if we scroll down there’s probably Cadence up the front here somewhere I can’t see it today so let’s just search for

Cadence here Cadence there we go and let’s grab that one install that one and then we can activate that we should get a button to install the starter template so let’s go ahead and do that as well all good and now we can actually start choosing and start a template so you can

Choose starter templates for Gutenberg or Elementor depending on what you press first so Gutenberg a little bit more performance but a little bit more tricky to use Elementor a little bit easier to use but a bit slower to load so I want to go with Gutenberg for this example

Here and there’s a nice simple one near the um if we search by free you can just filter it by free there’s lots of free ones there’s one called agency that I quite like I think it’s one of the first ones they released near the bottom here there we go agency

And then we can go let’s do the full site you can Skip and start importing and let it do its thing here so now we’re all finished we can view our site and if I reload it we should see our new Cadence site there we go looks pretty

Good so from here we can actually edit the page and customize it how we want and I’ve actually done a tutorial I’ll put that up on the end screen but that is a quick hosting setup tutorial okay for our conclusions very good Benchmark performance for web pages hosting

WordPress pages on here they loaded fairly quickly their benchmarks in WordPress were comparable with some much more expensive hosting like um cloudways and siteground this came with the catch of having a download speed limit on that plan so 10 megabit around 1.27 megabytes per second this is going to affect you

If you are trying to host large files so I would avoid hosting large files on this plan but for lightweight web pages it’s going to work quite well and give you very good value for money the email hosting didn’t include domain key identified mail dkim that is included by

Standard on most other places it costs 30 or 40 cents per account on hosting so keep that in mind I would recommend hosting your email elsewhere like I mentioned earlier Microsoft Google or Apple if you are really serious about Landing your mails into the inbox of your recipient if you want something free

Um Zoho send in blue and mailjet all give you dkim for free so I’ve got tutorials on the channel for Zoho and send in blue you can check those out but overall this is a really solid value for hosting websites um if you stick to basic websites on

Here you’re going to do very well get very solid price to performance on hosting so I’m still pretty impressed if you’re interested I’ve obviously got that link in the description with the discount code as well if you want to check that out but hopefully this has been helpful thanks for watching I’ll
