what is up guys it’s Reuben from Wade
Sadat host and today we’ll be doing a
shared web hosting review for GoDaddy
we’ll be going from sign up all the way
through to get in a hosted website up
and running let’s do this
go daddy.com we want to take a look at
their shared web hosting just located
here and their web hosting you see
they’ve got line-x plans have also got
window plans but we don’t need those
features at all so we’re just gonna
stick with the simple Linux plan we’ve
got economy deluxe an ultimate we have
already seen that we don’t need more
than one website will not need more than
hundred megabytes of storage and
obviously we get some additional
features to it so yeah we’ve got our
planned selections we can take a look
with brother 312 24 and 36 months plan I
see that they do have some loyalty
aspects to it if you choose the 36 month
then you get it at four dollars a month
which is rather nice they’ve got your
all your additional features site such
as site backup and restore side block
and your SSL certificate now if you take
a look at the pricing the site backup is
pretty standard pricing site lock is
actually below the standard the standard
is about one point sixty seven dollars a
month so this is actually a little bit
cheaper however the SSL Certificates is
sixty nine dollars and ninety nine cents
which is it movie goes between 49 to 59
dollars a year so this is actually a
little bit pricey for the SSL
Certificates we have taken look at the
packages and decided we’re gonna go with
a twelve-months option and then we’re
going to continue all right yeah we can
see that we’ve taken the economy Linux
hosting package
and that we’ve chosen our 12-month terms
there’s the monthly and in this total
all subtotal whistle attacks that has
been added now going on to our
promotional codes I went and did some
digging and I found yeah something that
I think would be quite awesome we’ve got
a promotional code here to get it at one
dollar a month if we take it for a year
or more and now for an entire year only
thirteen dollars and 68 cents which is
really really cheap so we’re gonna go
with that we also do get our free domain
with that but we’re not going to use
that we’re all gonna stick with the
subdomain option next would be to now
actually pay and fill in your billing
details and your account information I’m
going to do that now and then I’ll bring
you guys back to the control panel here
we land on our cPanel we’ve got a very
nice feature to have as we can see the
CPU usage memory disk space all usage
the works which is really nice including
the data center region which we have
decided to host from we’ve got our
website’s IP address we’ve got our home
directory and of course we’ve got our
subdomain and domain and extension all
day for us we can copy and paste that to
go view our site
this is a basic cPanel setup with the
file manager databases the different web
applications that you can use domains
all the different security metrics
software the advanced stuff and
including our email so first things
first let’s take a look at setting up a
plugin content management system of
sorts
now we can take a look at the web
applications at the heavier I think we
want to take a look at the WordPress
setup they using installer Tron which
yeah you can see all the features you
can see all the different aspects to it
this is more install it from feature
than actually GoDaddy
but they’re using that to install all
the different plugins so let’s go let’s
install and now we can see the location
this is the domain we would like to use
he has version our language he has all
the terms of conditions we don’t need to
do anything special here I would however
prefer to update the WordPress plugins
as a preference um and along with the
themes and then we’ve got our admin I’m
just gonna call it admin and the
password of my choice the email we’ve
got our website title and there we go
we’re folding all that relevant
information we don’t need to worry too
much about these and neither do we need
to worry too much about the Advanced
Settings and we can just click install
and yeah we can see that the GoDaddy
demo site is busy installing the
installation seems have been completed
now we can either take a look at our
site or we can go directly to the admin
login where we can start updating things
now we want to actually go to the
WordPress admin ok cool now we at the
WordPress quick set up this I’m not
going to read you guys through because
this is WordPress this isn’t actually
GoDaddy so I’m going to go through the
whole process get a little site up and
running and then I’ll bring you guys
back and here we go our wordpress site
is up that was really easy that was
basically a one-click install we just
had to enter the title and the tagline
and choose our options that we’d like
for it and voila we have a site then
from there was just WordPress stuff you
know implements in everything choosing a
template etc etc and we’ve got a demo
site up and running and take a look as
the home page and here is the about Us
page so that was quite easy next we move
on to FTP now file in
now we’ve got the site here but what I’m
going to do is I’m just gonna click
uninstall yes I do choose to uninstall
it and then it’s gonna uninstall and
then we can look at FTP in our demo site
in for speed testing now besides them
sending us the email of our FTP
information I want to see if we can use
it from here so we want to FTP look at
our FTP accounts and we can see yes I
will login username let’s configure FTP
client yeah we’ve got our server our
username and obviously we have to know
open they’re not going to give that to
us
alright and here we have our information
ok now that we’ve entered the
information we can click connect and we
are in I’ve got our public HTML and now
we can upload and then once it’s
uploaded I’ll bring you guys back and
our files have all been uploaded and now
we can take a look at our site so we go
here to our home page we can quickly
grab the URL you can place it and there
you go GoDaddy demo site is up all the
images have loaded in and now we can
start doing some speed testing the real
fun part to see all the analytics and
how it performs all right so we’re going
to be using GT matrix and web page test
this is where we’ll be doing our
analysts on it are we gonna do is we’re
going to paste like URL and we’re gonna
turn to analyze same yeah and once the
tests are done I will bring you guys
back all right so GT matrix report has
loaded we see that the yslow scores
actually kind of low a PageSpeed school
we expected to be low but it’s actually
not that good expression was not
specified for these it’s not specified
for anything that is cached
so this is telling me that the caching
is not as good as it can be okay so it’s
ultimately just that the files were
cached but there was no expiration
specified for when it runs out so that’s
okay it’s not great it would have been
nicer it’s a small feature doesn’t
actually influence performance a lot but
the files are going to be an arcade on
the user’s computer for like forever
because there’s no expiration to it so
that’s not great we can obviously ignore
serve scaled images and optimized images
that’s on our port we’re not doing that
because we actually want to taste this
load of it so we can have a very clear
difference between cache to not cached
take a look at the Wiesler these eat
tags and expiration headers that has to
do with the server
so these etags has to do with the apache
setup this is not done exploration is
not set for these cached items either
it’s not necessarily like horrible
because obviously if we know these two
items this PageSpeed score is gonna jump
up significantly but it’s not great this
this.d here is not good at all and these
two the expiration headers and the etags
that should definitely they are really
expected them to be doing that sort of
thing moving on to the web page test we
can see here that the initial load tom
was actually really slow with the same
site and others we were I was expecting
something more like 10 15 maybe even
like max 18 but 23 is really slow so
that actually tells us that the
bandwidth that the allocate is not not
amazing however that the repeated view
is actually pretty standard
0.26 seconds with the speed index of 555
that’s actually not a good speed index
the step means that the server is a bit
slow cuz it drained is it kind of late
hmm
and obviously we already know that the
static content is not cached which is
not cool at all I was really hoping that
they would do that okay now that we’ve
seen the tests for it now it comes to
the overview part and now we get to the
pros and cons what I liked and what I
did not like now starting what I liked
the resource viewer that was so nice
like just to see how the server is going
how its operating to see the CPU to see
the storage space taken up all that it
was a very very nice feature to the
cPanel homepage honestly I loved it that
was really cool along with the cPanel
navigation bar and the cPanel search
those two things were really nice to see
now I’m sort of quickly let you guys see
it now as you can see here the resource
panel it’s so nice now that you can see
your CPU usage your memory all the
different things that you need to see
just just to know what’s sort of going
on to get an idea of your disk space
usage
you know you signed up only per 100 gigs
how much have you used of that and that
was really nice
along with the navigation bar here I
also just want to mention the separation
between the two the GoDaddy bar and the
actual cPanel navigation bar that was a
very nice touch just that different
coloring but does this bar is very nice
because even when you let’s say you had
applications now you can go directly to
home we can go directly to the add-ons
or whatever you need to be so that’s
very nice you can go okay email
applications or I want to maybe take a
look at my settings change its style
change the field or action and even a
file manager or just go back to home so
that was a very very nice touch
something are also really quite liked
was the search bar here so many times
I’ve wanted to you’d I mean the cPanel
can get quite a big clutter at a time
as you can see there’s quite a bit of
things yeah so you quickly just okay
domains and there you go
then I could see is my domains take a
look at that so that was a very nice
touch very nice feature loved it the
next thing that I really liked was the
separation between domain and hosting
for example maybe you’ve got like five
domains but you’ve only got like three
hosting options you know two or one
whatever but I like the fact that there
was a separation between the domains and
the web hosting that made my life very
easy we were being hosted by another
company entirely and therefore I could
just go and I don’t have to worry about
any domains or anything I could just
focus on the web hosting I got the IP
address of the server and all I did was
I pointed it to the correct IP address
and it was easy it was done there was a
nice separation and I really really
liked that next thing I liked was your
only home page you’ve got your URL we’ve
got now your domain URL in this case it
includes the subdomain but you’ve got it
right there and it may seem silly that
it’s you know okay well how often do you
use it you actually use it quite a lot
and you copying and pasting and this and
that it’s actually very nice to have a
day I know that it I can always go to
the home page I can quickly grab my URL
and paste it in so that was just a nice
it’s very small probably seen as
insignificant but I really liked it and
then lost but definitely it was the
overall look and feel now if you take a
look here you can see that everything is
very nicely spaced there’s a good
separation between elements nothing
feels cluttered
the sections are well divided I don’t
feel like they just shove together very
nice spacing it gives the feel it feels
very easy and open and I can navigate
through this and I don’t feel like I’m
bombarded with information which is
awesome so that was the light now to the
part of what I did not like this is the
only other aspect that I had issues with
and that was the caching as you saw from
the page speed tastes a
the caching was different not up to poor
I believe it was the e-tag headers and
that has seduced the Apache set up that
wasn’t nice and the expiration dates on
cached objects which is also to do with
the service setup those were not done
very well in fact they were not done at
all it’s not as good as it could have
been the speed itself was still very
good the stuff that was ignored didn’t
influence the speed anything it’s not
like this items weren’t cache but the
biggest deal in the world but I like
perfection and I like when they do
everything they possibly can and in all
the other aspects GoDaddy really does
but just got to do with their servers
now the caching one small area where
they unfortunately do fall and it
doesn’t even affect a speed in any way
it’s pretty much just things that
they’ve forgotten to do and that does it
for today’s review of GoDaddy I hope you
guys now have a better idea of who you
would want to host your website
