Namecheap Review – Affordable Host. But is it reliable?
Tutorial Hosting
As the name implies, Namecheap offers affordable prices. But you may be wondering, will I receive a lousy service? Let’s find out! Welcome to Tooltester.com, where we help you find the best hosting service for your website. 8% of all the registered domain names are
Hosted with Namecheap, but they also offer a bunch of other services. In this video, I want to check its WordPress hosting service, EasyWP. Let me tell you all about its pros, cons, performance and fees. The first thing you’ll notice when checking Namecheap’s EasyWP plans is how affordable
It is. And if you are OK to pay yearly, you’ll get an even cheaper deal. There are 3 plans, though be aware that you’ll be limited to hosting only 1 WordPress site regardless of the plan you choose.
Starter is the entry-level tier, which offers 10 GB of storage and allows for up to 50,000 visitors each month. The Turbo package comes with 5 times more storage and 4 times more monthly visitors. Additionally, you get more resources and it includes a CDN and a SSL certificate.
If you choose the Supersonic package, you’ll get 100 GB of storage and you’ll be able to reach up to 500 K visitors a month. On top of that, you’ll have a few more resources allocated to you, and Namecheap also guarantees a 99.99% uptime rate – which is incredibly good.
Be warned that EasyWP doesn’t offer email services, you can, however, purchase professional email accounts from Namecheap. As you can see, these aren’t too expensive, though it is an extra-cost to consider. That’s all there is to know about its prices. Now Let’s check out the backend.
Let me show you how easy it is to install WordPress with Namecheap. Go ahead and press ‘Set Up WordPress’. Decide on a name for your website. I’m going to go with“Namecheap test”, I know, very creative. Decide if you want to have a free subdomain, connect a domain name that you already own
At Namecheap, or connect one from an external provider. Since this is a test, let’s get a free Namecheap subdomain. The next screen lets you pre-install some plugins for WordPress. I use Yoast SEO all the time, so let’s include it.
The last step is to review the setup and double-check that everything makes sense. If so, click ‘continue’ Then wait a couple of seconds until the installation is completed. As you can see, Namecheap’s dashboard is very minimalistic. Click on ‘Manage’ if you need to configure any aspect of your hosting account.
Compared to other hosting providers, the dashboard can feel a little too simple at times. Of course this is an advantage for beginners, but more advanced users will miss some features like the ability to set your PHP version or manually manage your database.
The Overview tab gives you a summary of your account. Telling you how much storage you have left and when the service expires. One thing I didn’t like about Namecheap WordPress hosting plans, is that the entry-level one doesn’t offer SSL certificates, you’ll need to get those separately. This is something
That the vast majority of the competitors include for free. Creating a backup is super easy. Head over to this tab. Then simply name your back-up and press this button. Depending on how big your site is, the backup could take longer.
It’s also cool that, besides restoring a backup, you can also download them locally. Sadly, EasyWP hosting plans don’t create automatic daily backups for you. Therefore, I’d recommend using a WordPress plugin like UpdraftPlus or VaultPress to make sure you are always covered.
With Namecheap, you can enable 2-factor authentication to give an extra-security layer to your account. They’ll send you a text message to your phone each time you try to log in. So, going back to our original question: Does Namecheap offer a cheap service?
I must say I was extremely surprised by Namecheap’s speed and uptime. I was expecting much less, to be honest. Let me show you what our tests say about Namecheap’s WordPress hosting service. Uptime couldn’t be better. The only downtime we’ve experimented in the last few months
Was when I had to delete the test website to record this video. This is IMPRESSIVE for a host with such an affordable price tag. EasyWP’s speed also surprised me, as it ranked among the top providers in our independent speed tests. Nice.
Bear in mind that we regularly test the performance, so things may have changed a bit for Namecheap since we created the video, check the link in the description to find the latest results. Namecheap has a vast section with tutorials and guides, though perhaps they could be a bit more detailed.
In my experience, contacting its live chat support is normally an easy process. I never had to wait too long, and the agents were always willing to help. Of course, if you prefer to send an email, there is always help via the support tickets. So is Namecheap’s EasyWP what you’re looking for?
Let me sumarize the main Pros and Cons. EasyWP is definitely an intuitive and easy to use host. Its performance is insanely good for this price, it’s generous with storage. And finally, it’s a WordPress-focused service, so it’s optimised for this CMS.
Sadly, the dashboard can feel a bit limited for some, as we’ve seen, it’s missing several options. Even though you can create your own manual backups, there isn’t an automated way to do this. Email accounts are purchased separately. And all plans only allow for 1 WordPress installation.
That’s all! I hope you found this Namecheap review interesting, if you’d like more on Namecheap, feel free to check out our written review. And, please, don’t forget to like this video if you’ve enjoyed it, it means a lot to us.
