Wix Review: Is it STILL the best website builder? All ✅ advantages and disadvantages ❎
Tutorial Hosting
Hi, welcome to Tooltester! If you’re thinking about creating a website, Wix is probably top of mind. And with good reason. It’s a great tool for small businesses, freelancers, creatives, and smaller stores. But, it’s not for everyone. Let’s find out why in this Wix review.
One of the reasons Wix is so popular is because of its website designs. There are more than 800 modern-looking templates, spanning categories such as business, online stores, creative, and more. Getting started is as easy as choosing your template, and clicking ‘Edit’.
Just be aware that once you’ve chosen your template, you won’t be able to switch to an entirely different one without rebuilding the entire website from scratch. Another thing to keep in mind is that Wix’s templates aren’t mobile responsive by default. This means additional editing is sometimes necessary to make it fully mobile-friendly.
Wix has the reputation of being easy to use. Generally, we agree. Although, it can be overwhelming when you first see the editor, which gives you a ton of options! Despite this, the drag-and-drop editor makes it easy to customize your site. All you have
To do is just click on the elements you want to edit and drag and drop them wherever you like. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really not that complicated. If you want to dive deeper into how to use its features,
You can check out our Wix tutorial, in the video description below. Now, if that’s not easy enough or you’re on a time-crunch, you can have Wix build your website for you. You’ll have to sacrifice some creative freedom but it’s an even simpler,
Faster way to build your site. With its AI-powered website builder, Wix ADI, all you have to do is answer a few quick questions, connect your social profiles, and that’s it! Wix ADI will build your site in just minutes. Just make sure that you select Wix ADI right after signing up for Wix.
One of Wix’s greatest strengths is its vast range of extra features. As you can see here, the theme we’ve chosen already includes Wix Bookings, which lets you take online appointments for services and classes. And, there’s also Wix Chat, a live chat widget that lets customers get in touch with you while
You’re online. You can also sell memberships and subscriptions to exclusive content. These are just a couple of the extra apps that can be added to your Wix site. You’ll find the full list in the Wix App store, which offers a combination of both Wix-made and third party apps.
The extensive app selection is one of the reasons why Wix is so great for small businesses. There is no other website builder that offers such a complete range of tools for getting new business. Let’s take a quick look at Wix’s online store, which is part of the “Business & eCommerce” packages.
With just a few clicks you can start selling products, digital files, services and subscriptions. Wix’s online store has no sales fees and it integrates with Amazon, eBay and Instagram, which makes it a good option if you are just getting started in ecommerce.
But if your store is on the larger side, you’ll probably want a more powerful ecommerce builder like Shopify or WooCommerce. If you want to know more about Wix Ecommerce, we did a whole video on that, which is linked below.
But now, let’s take a look at Wix’s blogging features. If you’re building a blog you should know that although the blog editor lets you add in different types of content, platforms like WordPress and Squarespace are better for blogging. Certain features like commenting and importing
Content from other blogs just don’t work as smoothly with Wix. For example, with the commenting system you can’t even approve or disapprove new feedback. So, we wouldn’t recommend Wix if blogging is the primary purpose of your website. When it comes to search traffic Wix actually offers some of the best SEO tools
We’ve seen. On top of being able to edit page titles, meta descriptions and URLs, you can also take SEO further with 301 redirects, editable robots.txt files, and more. But if this is all Greek to you, Wix will make SEO easy for you. All you do is answer a few questions about
Your site and it will give you a personalized step-by-step checklist to up your SEO. You can read our full analysis of Wix’s SEO capabilities in the link below. After seeing what Wix can do, you might be wondering, how much it will all cost.
The good news is that Wix offers a free basic plan. The not so good news is that you pay for it in other ways – mostly through ads and a domain name that has Wix in it. If you need an ad-free site and want your own personalized domain name, you’ll
Have to pay for that. Wix offers several plans to meet different budgets and requirements. But, the Combo plan is what we generally recommend to those getting started. It costs $16 per month and includes 2GB of storage, plus 24-hour customer service. If you’re looking to sell products or services though,
You’ll need one of the Business + Ecommerce plans. These start at $27 per month. Yes, Wix’s pricing is more expensive than other platforms like Weebly and Webnode. If you’re after a very basic website, these are probably better options. But, if you need premium features Wix is tough to beat.
To sum up, here are the 5 main reasons we recommend Wix. First, Wix is perfect for beginners. Its ready-to-go templates and intuitive editor make it super easy to use Also, Its flexibility is top notch. The designs all look professional and modern,
And its drag-and-drop editor lets you easily customize all the elements on your site Third, the App Market is great! We especially love Wix Music for selling and promoting music, and Wix Bookings, which lets your customers book and pay for services
And, Wix’s SEO features are comprehensive and useful for both beginners and experienced SEOs Finally, Wix comes with a very convenient version control system, called Site History. With it you can restore to any previous version of your site with just one click.
But, here are the top four reasons why Wix might not be for you. Price. With the cheapest ad-free plan staring at about $16/month, it’s not the most affordable website builder out there: Loading Speed. Large Wix websites tend to be on the slow side, which could affect both user experience and search performance
Another reason why Wix isn’t great for large sites is that the navigation is limited to 2 levels. In fact, we wouldn’t recommend it for sites with more than 30 individual pages Finally, it’s not the strongest solution for blogging. It is getting better in this area,
But Squarespace and WordPress still offer more powerful blogging tools If you want to try Wix, check out the links in the description below. And if you have any questions drop them in the comment section. Thanks for watching our video and see you next time at Tooltester.
