Web Hosting vs. Website Builder | Which one should you choose?
Tutorial Hosting
– You want to build a website, right? But you’re stuck onto where to even begin, like should you go to a website builder or buy a hosting and use WordPress? For me personally, the answer was clear, use WordPress. I said was because the more I tested different website builders,
The more useful I found them. So today, let’s have an honest discussion about what’s the best approach for your new website, and let’s look at what can a fresh user do with web hosting or website builders. The first thing we need to know is what project you want to create and what things you need your website to do. Are you creating a large e-commerce store or perhaps a personal blog? These will require very different features and tools to work well. But I don’t want to leave you with
It just depends, so let’s create three different scenarios. First, you want to create a blog or a personal project and the most important part for you is the content, aka you don’t really care a lot about design, features, or optimization for that matter. Second, you want to build a business site
Or a personal project and you plan to change things constantly or would like to have every optimization available if you want. Third, you want an e-commerce store with as easy a management system as you can. This means you don’t really care about designs and optimization as long as they are on industry level.
Now, let’s create a real-life website. Let’s take a beginner, say this guy. – Hello. – And let’s give him a task to build a website as best as he can using website builder Zyro. While he’s building a website on Zyro builder, I will be doing the same but with Hostinger and WordPress.
And off we go, and starting out is extremely similar no matter your choice. But as you can see with a builder, you’re already at the customization phase, while with Hostinger, you’re still setting everything up. That doesn’t mean that Hostinger is more complicated. Instead, it just has more things to go through
To make sure your site is perfect. The thing is, if we’re going with the Astra Theme and Starter Template plugin, the main building process becomes very similar to Zyro’s or any website builder, for that matter. Using Elementor, you can just drag and drop different elements and construct your design that way.
Of course, the beauty of WordPress is that any single website building approach does not limit you. Let’s skip a bit. And that’s what I was talking about. At this stage, building with Zyro, you don’t really have anything more left to add or change to the website, and the creation process is done.
Now you can spend time creating content and posts. Meanwhile, with Hostinger and with WordPress, there’s a lot more to customize and change, add different features to the site, or optimize its performance. Now, the finish line. After four hours, the website builder website looks like this, and Hostinger’s website looks like this.
Honestly, not as big of a difference as I may have expected. And since we use plugins to speed things up, the WordPress site actually has a bit more features compared to Zyro, but that’s kind of the point. You just need to do a bit more work with WordPress than with a website builder.
Before moving on though, let’s quickly do a loading time test to see how they stack up against each other. Hostinger site loaded in 1.3 seconds, while Zyro loaded in 2.4 seconds. That doesn’t seem like a big deal, but do keep in mind that as you start adding more content and features
To your website, this difference can become more and more noticeable. The main reason for this is very simple, with website builders, you depend solely on how well the provider is optimized, and you usually can do anything extra, while with hosting, you can improve almost every facet of your website.
And trust me, the improvements, they never end. Let’s look closer at Hostinger. You get a pre-installed light LiteSpeed plugin with every plan here. This is a really impressive tool. It allows you to minify your code, send images to be optimized for free, and can clean up your website from any bad code.
Oh, did I mention that this plugin is completely free? Yes. So if you want to get your hands dirty and performance is the main factor for you, Hostinger plus WordPress combination might be the best choice out there. – With website builders, everything was smooth sailing until I needed to create my content.
Compared to WordPress, the editor lacks features or precise things that I need. You can write content, but you can’t really customize how it will end up looking. – While with WordPress, it has much more control over everything you post, especially with the new Gutenberg editor which a lot of people love seeing
The download numbers on classic editor plugin. One of the biggest fears though I see in a lot of new users is the management part. I’m asked quite a lot whether a person with zero knowledge will be able to use WordPress or to modify different content,
Or is it even possible to manage your server without having any experience. Well, yes and no. The thing to understand, WordPress is probably the easiest CMS to use and teaching someone how to add new posts or images isn’t really that difficult. But, that being said, there still is a learning curve here
And you kinda get everything thrown at you at the same time, so it can feel very overwhelming with millions of different menus. And I won’t lie, until you get the hang of it, you’re bound to make some silly mistakes or even break your site, just a little bit.
So, now let’s ask you a question, do you need custom features on your website, do you want to build a website or have a website? Kind of like with food, if you want to just have the final product, website builders are like ready-to-go recipes for you to enjoy,
Hosting is like buying every single ingredient separately and learning something while cooking your food. Let’s break down my personal pros and cons of website builders like Wix or Zyro versus hosting providers like Hostinger or Bluehost. First, website builders will be more expensive monthly than their regular shared hosting plan. In most cases,
The price is twice what you would usually pay for the same kind of package, but do keep in mind that you’re buying hosting and the builder itself which, in most cases, means optimized tools and easy to use controls. With shared hosting, you can get a plan for around 2 to $4 a month.
The same setup would probably cost around 8 to $10 a month with most website builders. If you’re not a user that likes to mess around and test things out, builders will save you not only time but even some nerves. Web builders like Wix and Zyro
Are so much faster and less painful to manage. I have run a few websites for a couple of years now on WordPress and there are so many times when doing one thing, breaks another part of my website, so there’s a lot of micromanagement. Web hosting, much better performance. Now don’t get me wrong,
It’s not like website builders aren’t improving day by day to be more optimized and faster, but in most cases, you can’t optimize your content as much as with simple shared hosting, and the builder itself can create some heavy weighting websites. Your performance is left to the mercy of the provider.
Better search engine optimization. Well, naturally, having more control over your content means you can optimize it to a much better degree to be competitive in the market. Some website builders like Wix have improved a lot in this category in the past few years, but others offer just minimum options
To ensure you just get found. Security is up to you, mostly. When you pay for a website builder, you don’t really need to invest in security suites or technical knowledge. With hosting being much more complicated, you need to choose the right plugins, research the best security measures,
And well, keep your site security always in mind. I’m not saying that website builders are bulletproof, but in most cases, they’re the ones responsible for technical safety and you’re just responsible for a decent password. And the final advantage I want to mention is just low, low prices.
If you can manage most tasks on your own or at least you’re not afraid to read a few form answers here and there, you’ll save a lot of cash. The cheapest actually good shared hosting plan starts from as low as $2 a month, thanks to Hostinger.
Sure, you don’t get all the fancy tools and easy ways to build a website, but you kind of get what you paid for. So let’s return to our three established scenarios. If you want to create a blog or a personal project and the most important part for you is that content,
Go with Zyro, WordPress.com, or any other good website builder. If you want to build a business site or a personal project and you plan to change things constantly or would like to have every optimization available for you, choose a combination of Hostinger and WordPress. If you want an e-commerce store
With an easy management system and can spare a bit more cash, go with website builders like Zyro or specific platforms like Shopify. If you want e-commerce but you’re determined to save as much as you can, Hostinger and WooCommerce will do the trick. Personally, I’m bit of a WordPress nerd.
I just like solving things on my own because then, I can help you out when you stumble into the same problem. I consider it bit of a win-win situation. Whoa! That was a long video in the making. I really like both approaches but they’re designed for different situations and users.
I really hope I made it a bit more clearer on what to use in what situation. If you still have any questions or just want to have a chat, leave all your thoughts in the comments down below. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to the channel to keep up to date,
