How to Set Up Cloudflare DNS (2022 Update) [FAST]
Tutorial Hosting
On the cloudflare dashboard click on add a site next enter your domain name without any subdomain in my case that’s learntechnow.com then click on add site here you need to select a plan for most applications the free plan will be perfect you can always choose another plan later if you need it
So choose the free plan then click continue now cloudflare will scan your domain name for existing dns records after a few seconds it will show all the existing records from your current name server if the dns records are correct you can keep them in my case these records are from my registrar
They won’t work for my website since it’s located on a different hosting server so i will delete every single one of them and start from scratch if you’re just setting up your domain from scratch you’ll probably want to delete all the dns records too but be careful if your domain name is
Used for emails do not delete the mx records if you do your email system will go down so proceed with caution here in any case don’t be afraid you can change the dns records at any time in the future that’s the whole point of cloudflare click on continue
If you have no dns record set up you’ll get this pop-up it’s fine just click on confirm next we need to tell the registrar to point to cloudflare’s name servers just copy the first name server then go to your domain names registrar i’m using dynadot so the settings page
For your domain might not look the same for you but regardless of your registrar the process is exactly the same go to the domain names dns settings change the first name server to the one we copied on cloudflare to paste it just press ctrl v on a pc or
Command v on a mac go back to cloudflare and copy the second name server again go to your registrar and paste it then save the settings your registrar is now properly set up and you shouldn’t need to change anything here anymore before we go on please hit the like
Button if you find this video useful it helps me a lot now go back to cloudflare and click on done check name servers next we’ll configure the domain settings for security and performance click on get started unless your website is already installed and properly configured to work with https uncheck the automatic https
Rewrite settings if you keep it checked your website might behave unexpectedly click on save for the same reasons you probably want to keep the always use https setting off you can always change these settings later once your website is installed and properly configured i’ll talk about how to setup https in
Cloudflare in a future video so please consider subscribing if you don’t want to miss it okay time to click on save auto minify is a system that makes html js and css files as small as possible this setting is disabled by default if you’re currently developing your
Website it’s a good idea to keep it disabled then click on save finally broadly compression is enabled by default which is a good idea as soon as your website uses https the page load times will be reduced with this setting so keep it on and click on save
You can now click on finish on the overview page click on check name servers cloudflare will display a message saying that it is now checking the name servers for your domain name that is because the changes you made on your registrar are not propagated yet this is completely normal
It can take a few hours for your name servers to propagate when they do you’ll get an email confirming your domain has been properly added to cloudflare it’s now time to make your domain point to your hosting server in the left menu click on dns first add an a record
Choose a as the type for the name enter the it’s symbol this is a shortcut for your domain route then enter your ipv4 address this is the ip address of your hosting server then click on save next you’ll need a cname record some people will try to visit your
Website by typing the url with www at the beginning this url is technically a subdomain to take care of this choose cname as the type for the name enter www for the target enter the it symbol then click on save once these changes propagate cloudflare will point your domain name to your
Hosting server but your emails won’t work yet that’s because you need to set up your mx records in cloudflare if you want to know how to do that check out this video right now
