Setting Up a WordPress Blog from Scratch

Step 1: Choosing a Domain and Hosting

Hey, how’s it going? Alex here, and welcome to my WordPress tutorial. Today, we’re going to learn how to set up a blog website completely from scratch using free tools. We’ll design this exact blog using only free tools, so you can have this same site.

Domain and Hosting

First, we need to choose a domain and hosting. We recommend SiteGround for hosting. SiteGround came out on top in a poll of WordPress developers and designers. We also chose it because of its performance in the review signal benchmarks. It’s really outperformed at its price, offering incredibly good value.

Signing Up for SiteGround

To sign up, go to the SiteGround website and choose your hosting plan. For this example, we’ll choose the Grow Big plan, which allows unlimited websites. Enter your email address and password, and click "Proceed." Fill out your account and payment information, and make sure to select the USA data center.

Step 2: Installing WordPress

After signing up, go to the SiteGround dashboard and click "Set Up Site." Choose "Start a new website" and select WordPress. Enter your email address and password, and click "Continue." You’ll be taken to the WordPress installation page. Click "Install WordPress," and wait for the installation to complete.

We’ll use the free version of Astra as our theme and template. Go to the WordPress dashboard, and click "Appearance" > "Themes." Click "Add New," and upload the Astra theme. Click "Install Now," and then "Activate." Now, let’s set up our blog pages using the free version of Elementor.

Go to the WordPress dashboard, and click "Pages" > "Add New." Create a new page, and use the Elementor page builder to design it. We’ll add a title, header, and content to our home page.

We’ll use the WP Forms plugin to create a contact form. Go to the WordPress dashboard, and click "WP Forms" > "Add New." Create a new form, and use the Elementor form builder to design it. We’ll add fields for name and email, and set up the form settings.

Step 6: Finalizing the Blog

Go to the WordPress dashboard, and click "Appearance" > "Menus." Add our new pages to the menu, and arrange them as desired. Our blog is now complete!
